Day 138f: Finding the World of AND … (September 14, 2019)

Journeys, like artists, are both born and made. A thousand differing circumstances contribute to them, some of them willed and many determined by the will. Our own unique journeys flower spontaneously out of the demands of our Soul’s nature whenever the same are exposed to an environmental distress or circumstantial opportunity, and it is true that the very best of them lead us not only outwards into regions yet uncharted, but also inwards into realms not yet known. Pilgrimage, on the other hand, is ever conscious, ever chosen, and ever available. Regardless of happenstance or surroundings, it is our innate and constant ability to choose boldly – the will to set forth in any instant at any whim for a cause far greater than ourselves. It is the decision to make the highway one’s home &/or to see every stranger as a member of ones homestead … And we can all ever depart on such adventures, for the simple reason that we are ever free to return. And the funny thing became the truth that I never had to leave in order to Go; that an intensely focused walk to the corner store could be as potent as any multi-centennial wandering. I had come to know adventure beyond every open doorway, and vast swaths of meaning within the trials of every passing stranger. And so it was that instead of a life drowned in either/or, I rediscovered the World of And.” ~ inspired by Lawrence Durrell & Gloria Steinem
