Day 130o: Another sleep-full Sanctuary … (September 06, 2019)
I walked on into the now thickening darkness, very tired and yet easily treading down the mostly deserted roadway. And I made it into and through the town of Raphine, and then arrived at the outskirts of the hamlet of Steeles Tavern, where the beautiful Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church called to me from its lovely hillside, and offered me a quite lovely little sleeping knave (after I had the wherewithal to venture around the back) …
“What is the path to wholeness? We will only see it clearly if we recognize that greed’s ugly stepsister is ungratefulness. For greed always wants more. That is its nature. And when we are greedy, we are never satisfied. Whatever we receive from others, we conclude we deserve. And in whatever quantity it may come, it is never fully enough. In truth, a lack of gratitude is a manifestation of an abundance of greed. From the vantage point of the taker, he or she is always justified for their demanding. They are endlessly disappointed in others and in what they have or hold. No one ever comes through for them appropriately, and everyone always falls at least a little short of their reasonable expectations. And yet no truth, no matter how profound, will ever find its way into a heart that is absent of gratitude … And so they quite correctly say that the most powerful prayer is simply saying Thank You, and that the best way to say Thank You is to reach out and give to others – to forgive them – to help them – to be kind to them –to serve them. This is how we evince a real and viable gratitude, and this is how we can help make our broken world a better place.” ~ inspired by Erwin R. McManus & Avis Viswanathan
