Day 066e: Moissac’s other cheek … (06/19/2019)

On the way out of the church sanctuary I stopped by the welcome table that had been set up therein, and I am to this day extremely thankful I did so. For Monique, the volunteer on call that day, turned out to be a truly kindred Soul … She greeted me warmly and asked about my pilgrimage, and I felt almost compelled by her warm demeanor to take my time in answering; providing her with a more thorough description of The Walk than I had up to that point offered most others. As one might expect, she was deeply moved by the tale (even during its telling) – so much so that she quite ironically told me to head over to the Pilgrim’s House to receive a gratis coffee and a at least bit of food ( 😀 ) … I told her that I had already stopped by the same earlier and that I had essentially been turned away. She was greatly disturbed by this news, of course, and to assuage her distress I explained that I was doing fine, that I didn’t really need much to go very far, that The Way always seemed to provide for me at just the right moments, and that I harbored no hard feelings at all towards the Pilgrim’s House greeter – that I was in truth an unusually scruffy pilgrim (though to this day I humbly maintain that the same shouldn’t ever matter), and that she might very well have been simply having a rough day. And it was at that point, with tears in her eyes, that Monique reached into her large purse, pulled out an entire loaf of fresh bread (her own lunch for that day), and with a humongous smile gave me the same! … :O 😀
