Day 066f: Marching along with Martin … (06/19/2019)

I saw Martin again as I was leaving the church and offered him some of my bread, which he politely declined – saying he was on his way to get a quick bite to eat before heading back out onto The Way. I bid him adieu at that point and walked onward, thinking that I would probably not see him again. And yet I hadn’t counted on him being such an incredibly strong walker, for even though I had a significant head start (having left Moissac probably an hour before him), he overtook me with ease about an hour outside of town, and then was kind enough to slow down a bit and accompany me along a beautiful (and thankfully quite flat) canal-side trail for more than a few miles – jovially speaking with me about all sorts of topics thickly Meaning-full along the way; among them politics and kindness and religion and service. It really was a lovely time of heartfelt fellowship, especially for me – seeing as how my legs & hips were not doing so well on this particular day, and Martin’s companionship literally fueled my steps and inspired me to walk more fluidly for much longer than I would have otherwise been able … πŸ™‚

β€œHow great a thing for two human Souls to be reunited in this life; to strengthen each other with their mere honored presence, to ease one another’s sorrows – even if but for a moment – just by attending to the meeting, to uplift one another in times of turmoil, and to revel with one another in times of celebration – indeed to become one with each other with every word heard or spoken and in every glance made or pondered.” ~ inspired by George Eliot
