Day 065l: Giving whatever we Want … (06/18/2019)

And then I came across this particular “donativo stand” – a stand that consisted solely of a cooler filled with various cold drinks placed by the side of the path; a stand that told all who passed to take whatever they needed and then “put whatever you want” into the elevated change box in return. And it was this very situation that begged two quite important questions of me: 01) What was it that I truly “needed”, and 02) What is it that I truly “want” to give? Well, the first query is an easy one for any peace pilgrim to answer, as nothing is ever truly “needed” for one’s self while walking selflessly for others … 😉 … The answer to the second question was a bit more complicated, and yet ultimately led to the same conclusion. For what does the servant of kindness ever want to give other than peace to others? And what could be more peaceful an act at that particular moment than not taking anything at all for myself – than leaving all the drinks in the cooler to be enjoyed by the other thirsty pilgrims who would quite certainly be arriving a bit later on this most steamy of days? And so it was that I took nothing at all from that cooler, knowing that not doing meant that at least one more pilgrim would have his or her thirst quenched that day – and and so it was that I walk onward feeling fully at Peace … 😀
