Page 830 … the false religions

“Any attack on the Bible is a false religion.”

Well, first of all, I am not attacking the Bible, my Friend.  To the contrary, I am only “attacking” your extremely limited interpretation and highly confining opinions thereof, and as such the only thing I am actually “attacking” is your attack on the Bible!

Secondly, isn’t it far more important as a Christian to honor Jesus Christ (what I am doing), than it is to reject his teachings in order to futilely (& incorrectly) strive to uphold the “whole Bible”? … In other words, if you are going to have to choose between biblical literalism and the words & The Way of Jesus Christ (and make no mistake, choose between the two, you must), doesn’t it make more sense for a Christian to choose the latter?  Doesn’t it make more sense for you & yours to simply choose Jesus?

Yes, the “apostle” Paul might call such efforts “a faith that is shipwrecked” (when ironically it was he – and later his theology – who ended up suffering that fate; see Acts 27:27-28:5), and yet Jesus would say (and in fact did say quite clearly) that anyone not attending to his teachings (or obeying his commandments, or following his words) has shipwrecked their entire relationship with his heavenly Father … Frankly, when phrased like that, I’ll err on the side of siding with Jesus any day.  I wonder, my Friend – why won’t you?

“Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?  The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works.  Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves.  Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these … If you love me, you will keep my commandments.  And I will ask the Father, and he will give you an Advocate, to be with you forever.  This is the Spirit of Truth … You know it, because it abides with you, and it will be within you … And on that day you will know that I am in my Father, and that you are in me, and that I am in you.  They who have my commandments and keep them are those who love me; and those who love me will be loved by my Father” ~ Jesus Christ (John 14:10-21)
