2005 … My final Hawaiian Home
This was also the year when I met Pastor Dan – at the time the head minister at Kona United Methodist Church. Not only did Dan frequently stop by Border bookstore to engage in what we both reverently called our “Shotgun Bible Study” (where there was no lesson plan or specified objective, where the entire Bible was fair game for discussion each day, and where the only objective was to delve as deeply & as subversively into the texts as possible). It was not long afterwards that he also offered to let me park the car in which I was literally living at the time in the church’s peaceful parking lot each night …
“If you were born with the ability to change someone’s perspective or emotions, never waste that gift. It is one of the most powerful gifts God can give — the ability to inspire … There comes a time in your life when you can no longer put off choosing. You have to choose one path or the other. You can either live safe and be protected by people just like you, or you can stand up and be a leader for what is Right & Good & Decent & True … So remember to ever let the world know for what you live, not for whom you fall.” ~ via Shannon Alder & John Paul Warren
