Day 148g: Compassion for the Confutations … (September 24, 2019)

Come here, and allow me to share a bit of wisdom. Have you given much thought today to your permanently mortal condition? Probably not. Why would you? And yet listen: All mortal beings – you included – have been given a great gift by death. For there’s no one alive today who can say with any certainty that he or she will still be here tomorrow. Oh, how our fate moves so quietly! And oh what a mystery tomorrow ever remains! In truth, no one can teach it. Indeed, no one can even understand it. So accept the same right now – and cheer up! Have a drink to the beauty that is your living and the hyper-unlikely blessing that you can be aware of the same at all. And then let the rest all go, and flow away with the next passing breeze. Am I making sense? Indeed I think I am. So put on a smile and a garland of gratitude. We’re all mortals after all, an undeniable truth that makes every single instant of every single say immeasurably priceless … So shall we appreciate the same accordingly? Shall we walk through the woods and along the roadways? Shall we dance through the meadows and in the pathside brooks? Shall we not celebrate the miracle of this garden world while we still can?” ~ inspired by Anne Carson & Leland Lewis
