Day 142j: Kneading a lack of Need … (September 18, 2019)

The world says: ‘You have needs — satisfy them. You too have a right to be rich and mighty. Don’t hesitate to satisfy your own desires; indeed, expand your needs and demand ever more.’ Sadly, this is still the overarching worldly doctrine of the day, and many still falsely believe that this is the way to freedom. Of course, the opposite is the far sadder truth – that both the striving for and the attainment of the same is the darkest & rankest of prisons; that the result for the rich is isolation and suicide, for the powerful, paranoia and a vapid faux-existence … Indeed, it is our preoccupations with accumulating possessions and harboring influence that prevent us from living nobly – and thereby truly unfettered … In truth, if everyone demanded peace & kindness instead of a raise or a new & better cellphone, then peace and kindness would reign … We are all losing precious days. We are all degenerating steadily into a gaggle of mind-numbed slaves making more & more money for the few who need not the same. We learn so little of any real value in this trivial world of men, and we must break away from the same to ever be free again.” ~ inspired by Fyodor Dostoevsky, Bertrand Russell, John Lennon & John Muir
