Day 142h: Another friend in the Desert … (September 18, 2019)
I had walked much of the day without seeing so much as a single other human Soul, and was beginning to wonder if I would ever be able to speak another kind word to anyone – much less obtain a sip of even lukewarm water for my then fully parched throat. And yet that is when I saw Rosemarie sitting on her front porch, and that is when I approached her humbly and told her of my mission, and that is when she offered me an ice-cold Coca Cola for my Way …
“There are people we meet who have but small roles to play in our lives, those who seem to be no more than a brief yet special appearance in our story. And yet these souls too are those who influence, those who also possess the drift, the force whose subtle kindnesses and quiet implications lead us forward as well through our course of life. We might have never come across them until one particular day, and we will probably never again hear from them tomorrow or ever after. Their encounter comprises for us but a small handful of moments, and yet moments more than long enough for them to fulfill their purpose for our own journeys (and we for theirs). These too are the ones who bring meaning to our lives. These too, if we have but the humility to see them clearly, serve to inspire our treading, sparking a small but indelible flame that we will carry with us for the rest of our days. These fleeting folks, too, are worthy of our thanks. They just as well are our true Friends.” ~ inspired by Chirag Tulsiani
