Day 141f: Drinking it in to the fullest … (September 17, 2019)

I will not rest from my travels, and will drink my Life to very edge of its lees; adoring the times I have greatly reveled, and honoring those in which my suffering has proved suffocating. I will be ever thankful for those who loved me, those who attacked me, and the days I have spent alone. Through scudding drifts of time and effort drifts the rainy river. And in this life I am become a name. For ever roaming with a hungry Soul, much goodness have I done and known. I have resided in many cities of men – adopted their manners, endured their climates, advised their councils, and tolerated their governments. I have drunk delight of battle with my peers, far on the ringing plains of the windy Maseta. And I know that I remain indeed a part of all I have met along the way, and yet that every experience is but an arch where-through gleams that greater yet-untraveled world whose margin ever fades into the distance. How dulling it can be to pause; to think that some end has been made to that which is innately endless; to falsely sit and rust unburnished; to avoid shining in service! And though to walk is life – life piled on life piled on living! And even if it all proved to be too little, and of one to me even little remained, let every hour be saved and savored – arrested still from that looming eternal silence – ever something more to be done and thereby gained.” ~ inspired by Alfred Lord Tennyson
