Day 136c: Not very far from another Close Call … (September 12, 2019)

And then it was in the near outskirts of the town of Pulaski where I had my next close call with injury; where a woman at a T intersection – almost literally in the middle of nowhere – somehow didn’t see yours truly; a gangly, lope-sauntering, bright-yellow-clad, heavily bearded, and even smilingly waving Peace Pilgrim walking right in front of her stopped car, as she then decided to gun it out onto the main roadway (!!!) … Fortunately, unlike her I was paying close attention, and so was able to lightly & swiftly spin away from her just in time. To this day I cannot reason how she didn’t see me loping along right in front of her, and yet have since come to the conclusion that daydreaming can obviously be a bit more blinding than I had previously experienced or imagined …

Perhaps it is in truth all to the Good. Perhaps it’s best to live with the possibility that around any corner, at any time, may come the person who reminds you of your own capacity to surprise yourself, to put at risk everything that’s dear to you by boldly loving anyway. Perhaps he will remind you of the distances you have to bridge to begin to know anything about anyone other. Perhaps she will remind you that what seems to be — even about yourself — may actually not be at all. Perhaps you will remember that just like him or her, you too need have more than one cause to be forgiven … Life is an adventure in forgiveness. Forgiveness is an adventure in Love.” ~ inspired by Sue Miller, Norman Cousins & Reinhold Niebuhr
