Day 135d: A ration of reverence in Radford … (September 11, 2019)
I then flowed smoothly into the warm-vibed town of Radford – polar Yang to Christiansburg’s Yin if there ever was one – and pulled in without pause to Radford University’s McConnell Library; a place where my Walk was appreciated and I was just as lovingly welcomed – told by the staff on hand that I could use their facilities fully and remain for as long as I wanted without worry of being removed or in any way harassed or bothered (!!!) And that is what I proceeded to do for quite a few hours – sending out another Walk Missive to any & all who might be following along online, writing for awhile in my pilgrimage journal, and then hunkering down on an uber-cozy sofa for a well-yearned nap. It didn’t take long to feel that the latter wasn’t going to go so well (things were too brightly lit there to sleep well and, even for a library, a bit too noisy to boot), and so with great gratitude I thanked the library staff for their kindness and headed back out onto The Way …
“If then a practical end must be assigned to a University course, I say it is that of training kind & generous members of society. It is the education which gives a man a clear, conscious view of their own opinions and judgments, a truth in developing them, an eloquence in expressing them, and – most important of all – a force in embodying them. It teaches him to see things as they are, to go right to the point, to disentangle a skein of thought to detect what is sophistical and to discard what is irrelevant, and then to barge forth with that knowledge in hand to Do the Good that needs to be done therewith … As such, we are not called to give others a candle to light their way. We are to demonstrate through our noble deeds how they can make their own fire instead.” ~ inspired by John Henry Newman & Kamand Kojouri
