Day 131b: Behind the drone & hum … (September 07, 2019)
“Behind the hum and drone of our daily living, there rests a persistent and wild longing for something we cannot easily put into words. It is a quiet drive – a subtle but sonorous whisper – that feels like a call to impulsive adventure; to watching the sun rise over unfamiliar mountains, or sipping coffee in a strange streetside café, set to the background music of a hundred conversations being shared in an unknown language. It was the smell of the ocean at sunset, with seagulls dancingly whirling in a slowly reddening sky; it was the smell of exotic foods and the smiles adorning strange faces while walking through a city where no one knows our name. We all yearn for secrets whispered at midnight, and to take road trips without a map. And yet most of all, we ache for something to Do – something of weight and quality and importance. And the truly heartbreaking part for so many of us is that we can feel the remaining days of our lives steadily falling away, like leaves from an autumn tree, and yet still this mysterious mission that holds the key to unlocking life’s greater depths doesn’t arrive. We know that it’s missing, and we knew not where to find it. And yet we know that it lies beyond the hum and drone of our daily living, and so we set forth to find it wherever it might be. And in so setting forth we come to discover exactly where it resided – we eventually come to realize that it was known only when it was given to others; that it was actually within us all along.” ~ inspired by John Mark Green
