Day 127f: The authority to Be Kind … (September 03, 2019)
I got into a pretty smooth groove at some point that mid-morning, letting my strides grow long while mumble-humming my own higher-meant version of the Shema*, when Sargent Richards (of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department) stopped by to make sure I was okay and then to wish me well & safe-travels for the rest of my Walk. And kudos to him, no doubt, for he could have very easily made my life more difficult at that moment – he could have arrested me for ‘trespassing a public highway’ or engaging in ‘public endangerment’, and he could have ridiculed or denigrated my endeavor as well. And yet Sargent Richards did what he and indeed the rest of us are equally allowed to do – Sargent Richards simply chose to be kind …
*To say the Shema is to refer to Deuteronomy 6;4, and essentially an announcing of the Hebrew phrase Adonai Elohaynu, Adonai Echad – traditionally translated as “The Lord is our God, the Lord alone”, and yet redefined by myself (for my Self) as “The Universe is my godhead; the divinity that resides in everything.”
“Whether lamp or ladder or Lego, choose to be something that makes the world a kinder place … Kindness and awareness work together. Through awareness we understand the underlying and interconnected beauty of everything and every being, and through kindness that same beauty is appropriately appreciated & correctly honored.” ~ inspired by Abhijit Naskar & Amit Ray
