Day 126b: On to Diane’s dojo … (September 02, 2019)
I ambled along quite pleasantly this day, and got into such a good groove that I found myself easily (and at times quite passionately) pre-answering questions about the Walk (and practical Selflessness and radical Kindness and self-sustainable Community and Veganism), questions posed by imaginary members of the audiences I was at that point still sure were waiting for me somewhere at the Walk’s imminent end. And so the miles rolled by – one testimonial at a time – until rolled into the 7-11 in Amisville, where attendant Diane heard about my Walk and tells me to pick out whatever I want from the store – that breakfast today was on her. I thanked her from the Heart and then headed outside with my potato chips and vegan granola bars and bananas to sit on a neighboring picnic table to enjoy the same in peace before walking onward. And then in short order John pulled up beside me and offered an even greater sustenance for any peace pilgrim – the knowledge that he had overheard what I was doing, that he was grateful for my efforts, and that he felt motivated by the same to be kinder person himself as a result …
“Love like a child and live like a child. In a world still full of selfish adults, choose to be the selfless smile of a toddler. We are not obligated to drink water, and yet we can’t live without it. Likewise, we are not obligated to help anyone – we are not required to truly care, and yet a true human can never be truly alive without helping another in need … You know, this idea that lone individuals can accomplish great things is a lot of moonshine, really. All we can do is work for &/or along with others along a general line, and humankind moves along in kind – slowly, yes, but just as assuredly.” ~ inspired by Abhijit Naskar & Colgate Darden
