Day 115c: Another miss-guiding Message … (August 22, 2019)

I thereafter made it past the beautiful St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and was at first delighted to see its purportedly progressive message of purely unconditional Love emblazoned on a banner upon its lawn. Upon closer inspection, however, I quickly noticed that two all-important societal sub-groups were completely missing from its amorous admonition – my innately worthy Friends the homeless and my equally worthy Friends the animals … πŸ™

β€œThe world is so exquisite – with so much love and moral depth – that there is no reason to deceive ourselves with pretty stories for which there’s little ready evidence. Far better it seems to me, in our intractable vulnerability, is to look our imminent demise squarely in the eye and then choose to be not only grateful for the brief but magnificent opportunity that life provides, but also courageous in the way we exude that gratitude to all nearby … For regardless of our own particular religious bent (or even our complete lack thereof) it is when we notice the most oppressed &/or the most downtrodden in our midst and then extend the same a liberating &/or gentle hand that the Divine is most present in both ourselves and our world.” ~ inspired by Carl Sagan & C.S. Lewis
