Day 096j: The spiritualization of Matter … (July 19, 2019)

Then it was into the town of Vega de Valcarce, a tiny & lovely hamlet, the beauty of which being somehow magnified and made even more wondrous by the massive modern skyway that crossed & dominated its skies …

It can be fairly stated that Beauty is produced by the pleasing appearance and good taste of the whole, and by the dimensions of all the parts being duly proportioned to each other. In this way, all buildings can be fairly called the spiritualization of matter. That said, the greatest products of architecture are less the works of individuals than they are of society as a whole; rather the offspring of an entire community’s effort, than the inspired flash of a single man of genius. And it must not be forgotten that any truly great building must begin with the immeasurable, must go through measurable while it is being designed, and in the end must harmonize with its surrounding landscape so seamlessly as to once more become immeasurable.” ~ via Vitruvius, Dean Cavanaugh, Victor Hugo, and Louis Kahn
