Day 092s: Yearning into Yoga … (July 15, 2019)
It was fascinating to sit back and see how I had indeed landed in a Camino-based, “self-help”, Zone 2 yoga paradise – not at all “the vibe” in any way in harmony with my Cosmos-based, service oriented, Zone 3 Peace Pilgrim gig, and yet a glorious gaggle of well-intended and highly beautiful Souls nonetheless. There was little doubt that very few of these lovely people would be in any way interested in anything I had to say about perfect Love or viable Contentment or deeper Meaning or higher Purpose, AND that was somehow wonderful in its own right – allowing me to simply sit back and quietly beam them all Love while they each strove in their own unique ways to attain their own desired versions of “Inner Peace” &/or “Enlightenment.”
“The average human being is actually quite bad at predicting what he or she should do in order to be truly happy, and this inability to identify the same keeps people from, well, being happier. In fact, psychologist Daniel Gilbert has made a career out of demonstrating that human beings are downright awful at predicting their own likes and dislikes, much less effectuating their own sense of peace or contentment. For example, most research subjects strongly believe that another $30,000 a year in income would make them much happier, and they each feel equally strongly that adding a 30-minute walk to their daily routine would be of minimal significance. And yet Dr. Gilbert’s research suggests that the added income is far less likely to produce an increase in happiness than the addition of a regular walk – not to mention that even the added walk will never bring them any closer to a tangible sense of available Joy; the sheer overwhelming Bliss that only comes to those who completely replace all designs for self-improvement &/or enlightenment in favor of serving the less fortunate &/or being kind to strangers.” ~ inspired by Kerry Patterson
