Caring for the Ill (February 6th) …

February 06Caring for the Ill: Go to a local hospital and head to the cancer ward (or other part of the facility where terminally ill patients are staying). Bring a flowering plant (avoid cut flowers that will soon wilt) … Visit with the patients there — Listen to their stories, bring them cartoons or tell them jokes. Tell them about your own Life (only if they ask). Bonus Activity: Before you leave offer to fulfill a patient’s “dying wish”. Keep offering until you find someone who accepts your offer. Then head out and get to it!

This activity is one of the more difficult for any ego to engage – combining an exposure to strangers with the confrontation of the reality of our mortality. As such, it is one of the “express lanes” to personal transcendence – one of the most efficient paths to tread to awaken your caring True Self; a True Self that remains asleep until you choose to selflessly Care for another while afraid to do so.

And when you do so (as you inevitably will), remember that it is not important how you express your affection to those you encounter, nor is it important that you actually “do them any good”. It is only important that you intend to Care for them while actively extending them Kindness.

You can bring them the sustenance of Beauty …

You can bring them the sustenance of a smile …

You can even directly give them the sustenance of your Love.

Regardless of how you choose to express your caring, alone the courageous kindness displayed by intending to care for a stranger while walking through that hospital door will be more than enough to awaken the selfless “sleeper” within you.

See You when I see you …

and until then, Be Now!
