Day 071e: To simply say Thanks … (June 24, 2019)
I had heard from other pilgrims about the Chalet du Bonheur (the Cottage of Happiness) on the outskirts of Peyret – a place with a longstanding history of being overtly kind to any & all pilgrims in need, and so I decided to stop briefly by and offer the caregivers there yet another of my self-made Peace Stones; not to honor anything they had done or would do for me, but simply to thank them for being the Good People they had chosen to Become. True to form – despite their instinctively confused surprise at me offering an unconditional kindness in return for nothing, the manager on-call offered me a seat and some tea; an infusion of hand-picked lemon balm freshly picked from their herb garden, a soothing brew that helped to calm the rumblings in my tummy (i.e. the strong indigestion that I was feeling at the time, a throbbing uncomfortability that had been brought on by the less-than-stellar bread and fig preserves that had been provided at hostel Bethanie a few hours earlier) …
