Day 071d: Even when the Giving’s closed … (June 24, 2019)
I soon came across this cute little donativo* cafe for pilgrims. It was too early for anything to be set out for me, and yet I found myself feel deeply grateful nonetheless. For in truth there is no need to wait for personal benefits to accrue to be thankful. In truth, it is both more powerful & more appropriate to be thankful in those moments when we do not receive any direct gifts or blessings – when we recognize that blessings & gifts are continuously being offered to others someplace on this gorgeous planet; when we realize anew that Life itself is the Gift of all gifts …

*The word “donativo” referred to any hostel or roadside refreshment stand that openly & unabashedly offered services to pilgrims for free – using the “pay what you can (even if that “can” is nothing at all) and receive whatever you need” philosophy.
