Day 068l: Turning the growing pain into a growing Gain … (June 21, 2019)
Today actually turned out to be one of the more unpleasant physical walking experiences of the entire pilgrimage. Not only was the Path extremely thin (about the width of one of my shoes) for many miles, but it was also caked with hyper-slippery and uber-gooey mud. To make matters even more challenging, the grass on either side said Way (where I ended placing my feet as I plod-slipped along) was tall and slippery and soaked as well. And these conditions persisted for hour after hour after hour of trudging through the day … And yet the same allowed me – nay, forced me – to hone my focus in to each individual step; to refuse to be tempted with wondering how I was ever going to “make it” to the end of that days’ trek, but instead to solely concentrate on making and completing my very next step; again & again & again & again — only my very next step …
“The best way is not to fight it, just go. Don’t be trying all the time to fix things. What you run from only stays with you longer. When you fight something, you only make it stronger … For after all, the best thing one can do when it is raining (indeed the only thing one can do) is to simply let it rain.” ~ via Chuck Palahniuk & Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
