Day 068c: The greater pain of all sweetest Goodbyes … (June 21, 2019)

While the decision to leave that morning was clearly the Correct one (I was not in any debilitating pain, the skies were wet & gray but in no way dangerously ominous, there was no more immediate need of my assistance in the hostel’s yard and gardens, and there was no current pilgrim resident who was at that moment at all Open to receiving my Message), it was a deeply painful one nonetheless. Of all the places I have overnighted during my many travels, and of all the wonderful people who have taken me during the same, nowhere have I ever felt more AT HOME than here in Le Par Chemin* … Frederic & Muriel, without even a single doubt’s shadow, wholly “get it”, and have constructed a sanctuary that truly embodies the Love of The Way. Could I stay here “forever” and do great Good for all who wander through (while helping Frederic & Muriel to Build UP their most harmonious homestead)? Of course I could. Would this service be the one “most needed” – the one I have been Called to fulfill in this time? No, it would not … The adage “If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it” came readily to mind, along with the Truth that we are called not to merely “help out” where it is easiest, but rather have each been Summoned to server where kindness is most lacking. And that, in this case, meant heading back out onto The Road, and so it was with an almost overwhelming sense of both gravitas and gratitude that I held them both close, thanked them both from the deepest plumb of my being, and walked onward into this newest day.

I would so Joy-fully stay with you both here forever, and yet what you have already made here is what needs to happen all over the world, and I must go onward to somehow see that it does.” ~ my parting words to Frederic & Muriel

It has taken me over five decades to realize we are not here to internally ponder or emotionally appreciate life’s glorious landscapes, or its saintly strangers, or even the wonders of God himself. No, what we have all been called to do is merge fully with these miracles; to recognize their enormous beauty and then act accordingly.” ~ inspired by Peter Holmes
