Day 065d: Church & State — a horrific pair … (06/18/2019)

It was some pretty smooth sauntering all the way to the city of Montcuq – so smooth, in fact, that I only stopped briefly in its somewhat lovely Eglise de St. Privat* before sauntering onward. And when I say “somewhat lovely,” know that I am referring to its ambience and its architecture, NOT its stained-glass window memorializing – with the church’s hypocritical help, no less – all the poor men (and women) who had “died for their country.” 🙁 🙁 🙁

“It is forbidden in civilized society to kill, and therefore all murderers are to be appropriately punished – unless of course they kill in very large numbers in the sight colorful flags and to the sound of trumpets.” ~ via Voltaire

*St. Privat refers to the site of the 1870 Battle of Gravelotte – largest battle of the Franco-Prussion War – where both sides lost an official total of 21,309; with more than 20,000 of those losses coming from the Prussian & Hessian armies, who ironically were the “winners” of this most horrible day … 🙁
