Day 061w: Wandering into a Wedding … (06/14/2019)

And so it was that I finally arrived, exhausted by the day’s long walk and soaking wet from its more recent rainfalls, at the town of Beduer — where I was quite surprised to hear a cacophony of English-speaking voices showered down upon me from the city’s most regal chateau above … :O

It turns out that a wedding was taking place therein on that day — a wedding between two people who were obviously quite well-to-do. I was pretty worn out by this point — and had an odor about me that belied the same, and yet this opportunity seemed to good to pass up. After all, what wedding pair wouldn’t want one of the world’s few Peace Pilgrims to attend their union, right? πŸ˜‰

And so it was that I attempted to crash a most wealthy wedding, approaching the castle from the main driveway (and marveling at the scintillatingly fine attire which bedecked those already in attendance), and informing the first person I saw that I had walked all the way from Germany to attend the festivities and sign the lucky couple’s guest book … πŸ˜€

Needless to say, my bedraggled form was not received very well (it didn’t help that the man & woman to whom I was speaking were trying without success to calm their crying infant at the time), and I was asked to leave instead — but not before deeply befriending the wait staff who were on hand, not before amazing the highly intrigued wedding planner I met, and not before indeed signing the chateau’s guest book that I found conveniently resting on a nearby table … πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

β€œLet there be spaces in your togetherness, And let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another but make not a bond of your love. Let it rather be like a moving sea between the shores of your Souls. Fill each other’s chalice but drink not from the same cup. Give one another of your own bread but eat not from the same loaf. Sing and dance together and be joyous, and yet let each one of you be alone … Give your hearts to each other fully, and yet not into each other’s keeping. For only the hand of Life can contain our hearts. And finally, stand together, yet not too near. For the pillars of the temple stand significantly apart, and the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow.” ~ via Khalil Gibran
