Day 52s: Fiat Lux; Fiat Ignis … (06/05/2019)
I will admit that many of my more uncomfortable sleeping arrangements during The Walk ended up being by far my more favored ones — partially due to the after-the-fact feelings of strength and resolve and even accomplishment that always came from weathering the same. And yet my night in the La Clauze refuge turned out to be my most favorite night of all — not only because it afforded me the opportunity to transcend great uncomfortability in support of my Walk’s great cause, but also because it afforded me the opportunity to make & tend a fire, and thereby provide warmth during that cold & rainy night — for myself and fellow pilgrim Robin alike… 😀
“If you’re going to try, then go all the way. Otherwise, don’t even start. This could mean losing everything — girlfriends, wives, relatives, and maybe even your life. It could mean not eating for three or four days straight. It could mean freezing on a park bench. It could mean jail. It could mean derision. It could mean mockery — or isolation. And yet the greatest difficulties are the greatest gifts; all of them tests of your endurance, tests of your resolve, tests of your courage, tests if of how much you really want this life. And, you will do it, despite the staunchest rejections and the worst odds. And it will be better than anything else you could ever imagine … If you’re going to try, then go all the way — for there is no other feeling like that. When you leap completely, you will be alone with the gods, and your nights will flame with fire. You will ride your life straight to perfect laughter. This is the only good fight there is.” ~ inspired by Charles Bukowski
