Day 46x: Sleeping with the Enemy … (05/30/2019)

I finally made it to the village of St. Sauver en Rue, and eventually found Annie & Pierre’s hostel (the Gite Rural Paysan) on the outskirts of town. No one was home when I arrived and entered, and yet a note had been left on the dining room table by the absentee owners — a note telling that nights’ pilgrims (who had obviously called ahead and reserved a room) to come on in and make themselves at home. There was quite obviously more than enough space for me to spend the night as well (only one of the three bedrooms had been reserved), and yet it wouldn’t have felt right to do so without in some way contacting the owners beforehand. I wasn’t sure what to do at this point (and was about to walk on in search of another refuge for the evening) when who should appear but Juergen & Jennifer, who as it turned out were indeed the very pilgrims to whom the note had been written ( :O ) … Our reunion was a warm one, and they quite kindly used their cell phone to contact Annie for me and attain her official permission for me to spend the night ( πŸ˜€ ) … I was told as well to enjoy whatever foodstuffs had been left in the cupboard by pilgrims previous, and thereafter enjoyed a most healthy (and quite delicious) meal of mung beans before showering and hitting the hay … πŸ˜€

*The irony of the moment was embedded in Annie & Pierre — who were still attaining their wealth through the abuse & exploitation of animals (primarily the pigs they murdered in their butcher shop) — unwittingly helping a vegan Peace Pilgrim find sustenance and shelter for the night … πŸ˜‰
