Day 34e: Unguided by Government … (05/18/2019)

Geneva without question emitted one of the most unfriendly vibes of any town or city I passed through during the entire Walk (rivaled only by Christiansburg, Virginia & Knoxville, Tennessee), and there were several easy-to-understand reasons why — an obscene level of disparity between residents who were wealthy and those who were poor, an abundance of austere churches far more interested in serving tourists than in helping those in need, and an overflowing excess of governmental offices as ugly as they have been ineffective — the latter represented quite nicely by the World Trade Organization headquarters pictured below; a building appropriately situated on a “Peace Avenue” that was thoroughly riddled with stop signs, half-finished constructions, detours, and dead-ends … :O

“Traditional expressions of greatness are but transitory experiences, depending in significant part upon the myth-making imagination of Humankind. As such, those who experience such knowings of fame & power must have a feeling for the myth they are in, not only accurately reflecting what is projected upon them, but also having a strong sense of Humility in their dealings with others. The latter is what uncouples them from falsely believing in their own pretensions. Indeed, it is Humility and Humility alone that permits them to move smoothly through their stations, and without this all-important quality, even occasional Greatness will ultimately destroy them.” ~ inspired by Frank Herbert

“No matter how successful or influential you become, remember that You are ever but one facet of the Divine.” ~ anonymous
