Day 31g: Bigger being Better — Part 1 … (05/15/2019)
It’s best for all of us to avoid slipping into feelings of arrogance or overconfidence after successfully navigating any particular challenge or obstacle, and yet nowhere is this more true* than while walking a peace pilgrimage — a Truth with which I was confronted on this very day. For no sooner had my two impromptu comrades helped me over the last fallen tree than a far larger one rose up to block my way … :O
I had seen the signs saying that the trail was closed due to tree-fall, of course, and yet as with all other such signs encountered up to that point, I chose to ignore them and proceed onward. After all, just how bad could it be?
The answer to that question: Pretty darn BAD, with me shortly thereafter rounding a corner to find that the entire way had been completely blocked by a truly MASSIVE fallen tree — one much Much MUCH larger than its predecessor. Indeed, this particular slain giant was over four feet in diameter in places, with its wall-like trunk extending all to the river to my left and its thick, web-woven limbs extend in a mass of chaos over one hundred feet into to thick woods to my right … :O :O
“How needlessly — and how frequently — do we cling to vaporous fears for our future; fears often forged in the pains from our past. And how willingly — and how sadly — do we allow those fears to fully neutralize our present; to wholly keep us from taking up our sole eternal task: to Love the most those who deserve Love the least.” ~ inspired by Ray Simpson
*One place where it is more true: after giving “love” to another in the hopes that they will “feel better” or “be a better person” as a result. LOVE knows no hope for success or expectation or reward in any form. Real LOVE is simply given — ever humbly; never confident of any particular outcome — given for its own sake and its own sake alone … 😉
