Day 31d: The Heart within the seemingly heartless … (05/15/2019)
Walking through the village of Buchillon on this clear-yet-blustery day, I came across the restaurant Au Vieux Navire (roughly translated — “Aboard the Old Ship”) and decided to enter and ask for some water to help fuel my Journey. This turned out to be yet another relatively high-end establishment, at the time sprinkled with small groups of very well-dressed businessman speaking about things that were quite obviously “extremely important” ( 😉 ) … None of the latter gave a bedraggled yours truly as much as a second glance, of course, and yet the restaurant staff (after hearing cursorily about my pilgrimage and its Purpose) proved to be a far more uplifting matter, with waitress Adefine being especially kind — bringing me not only the large glass of fresh water I had requested, but fresh bread and a small plate of olives to boot … 😀
“I may just disappear, leaving behind no worldly possessions at all — just a few old socks and a handful of love letters and my little rag & bone shop of the heart whose motto is simply: ‘Be not unkind to strangers, lest they be angels in disguise.’ I may well disappear altogether — having left neither intended destination nor forwarding address, and yet for all you know I am still to this day walking among you; smiling upon all encountered and spreading my message of courageous caring along the way.” ~ inspired by George Whitman
