Day 20c: Oh, that most difficult Day … (05/04/2019)

Whenever we look back on our lives most difficult times, a characteristic they all often have in common is a sense of sheer unpredictability — the fact that we were often totally unprepared for the challenges they offered, calling forth the feeling we had in those moments that we “just didn’t see it coming” … And so it was for me on this day — a day that turned out to be by far the most difficult (not only in terms of frustration but pain & exhaustion as well) of my entire Walk.

Not only was the weather far less than ideal (no sooner did I finally start walking in the correct direction than it started sleeting — a finely woven wave of sleet, the kind that clouds vision while caking in layers upon clothes already damp & chilly) and the way mostly unmarked, but the hiking trail the authorities had chosen to be their current Camino was one of the most ambitious ones I had ever trekked — not only a path that proceeded steadily upwards at an incredibly steep pitch (the pictures don’t even come close to portraying what looked — and definitely felt — to be its relentless 30+ degree grade), but also one that was littered with slippery mud and sharp stones and protruding roots to boot … :O

the man with inner courage dares to live.” ~ Lao Tzu
