Day 16g: The many gists of German … (04/30/2019)
It’s hard enough trying to follow pilgrimage routes through larger cities in general, and yet I soon discovered that Switzerland made this task even harder still — by not having any Camino-specific waymarkers at all (at least not on the Basel to Geneva route I was treading*). That having been said, I did make my way steadily & southwesterly through town with the help of various local residents; goodhearted folks who eventually guided me to the “Nachtigallenwaeldeli” (literally translatable as “tiny forest for nightingales”) walkway, a wonderfully-named mostly-streamside path that eventually led me out of town and back onto the Camino proper … 🙂
“We are weaned from our timidity, in the flush of Love’s bright light. We dare be brave and bold, and yet suddenly we see — that Love costs all that we are and all we’ll ever be, and that it’s Love and Love alone which ever sets us free.” ~ inspired by Maya Angelou
*There are several Camino de Santiago routes through Switzerland, with the Basel-to-Geneva route I was walking being the least popular thereof. It was so unpopular, in fact, that those responsible for identifying its traditional route were at the time still unsure of the same, and as such had resorted to simply boot-strapping its current path onto sparsely-marked pre-established hiking trails instead.
