Day 15c: A hole in The ONE … (04/29/2019)

I humbly admit that there is a metaphoric appropriateness to be found in coming across a golf course that has been built alongside an age-old pilgrimage route (e.g. unifying the material with the spiritual; combining the meaningless pursuit of pleasure with the meaningful path of the pilgrim — with both striving to attain a similar experience of ONEness; the golfer with his ball and the hole; the pilgrim with his steps and his purpose). That having been admitted, it is just as appropriate for one to come across the same — including its flagrant championing of elitism, materialism, self-serving vapidness, and even the hollowness of hobby — and feel a profound, bone-deep sense of dis-ease if not mild disgust … 🙁

“There are only three things in human life that are of any real importance. The first is to Be Kind; the second is to Be Kind; and the third is to Be Kind … As such, we are called not to live lives that are pleasurable or long or even good, but rather to each day resolve to simply Do whatever Good there is to be done. For it is our little slivers of caring that ultimately come together and form the Great Blade that carves away all pettiness & greed, and thus it is those same slivers of caring that ultimately overwhelm the world.” ~ inspired by Henry James & Desmond Tutu
