Day 10b: Water in the Wilderness β¦ (04/24/2019)
After finally finding the proper path, I walked on through the woods on this day with high spirits — the sun was shining, the trail was now smooth and clear, and the landscape was stunningly beautiful. That having been said, there was one cause for concern: water — or better stated, my pregnant lack thereof. You see, up until that point walking a pilgrimage in Germany meant always being a stone’s throw away from a village or a store or a house, and as such the water bottle I was using at the time was a rather tiny one — a water bottle that on this day’s heat soon became completely empty, and a water bottle that had no place nearby in which to refill it. So even though I continued to smile as I walked along, I was extremely thirsty, and even though I was happy with the day, there soon developed an accompanying concern about when I was going to be able to find something to drink.
And yet that concern was quite miraculously put to rest soon thereafter, when I rounded a bend in the trail to find a lovely little vacation cottage, seemingly in the middle of nowhere; a lovely little cottage with a lovely little garden; a lovely little garden in which a lovely little couple — Marc & Andrea — were sunbathing Adam & Eve style at the time; a lovely little couple who saw me, asked what I was doing, and then (after hearing an abbreviated telling of my tale) invited me in for a lovely little rest stop — one complete with caring conversation, delicious fruit — and water β¦ π π π π
