Day 07c: Sheltered from the Storm … (04/21/2019)
Some storms soak and freeze, and shelter therefrom comes in the form of a water-tight roof over our heads or a warm blanket around our bodies. Other storms rage differently — raging within; with thoughts of hopelessness or feelings of despair, and solace from their deluges comes in the form of gentleness given by friends or kindness offered by strangers. So it was for me on the my Walk’s second 3rd day, a day when I found myself limping badly on open blisters and wondering deeply how I was going to complete this crazy task I had undertaken. And yet solace did arrive (as solace always ultimately does); first in the form of some bandages haphazardly-yet-devoutly applied by two acolytes of the Alpirsbach Catholic Church, and then later in the form of sustenance & shelter — graciously provided by that same church’s managerial matriarch; a woman who provided food for my empty belly, fresh socks for my aching feet, and a bed for my tired body.
(The third attached image below shows not the aforementioned catholic place of worship where my feet were tended, but rather the home of that day’s benefactress nestled snugly behind that church’s evangelical counterpart.)
