Page 81 … Leviticus, be damned

Essentially, to avoid falling into the cesspool of hypocrisy that Jesus himself detested (see Matthew 23, pretty much the whole chapter), evangelicals who  use two verses from Leviticus to damn an entire subset of “sinners” to Hell means that they also have to adhere to all the verses in that sa,e scroll … As I briefly pointed out to Beth previously, the Old Testament is literally full of hateful, bigoted, barbarically outdated laws & regulations, many of which also carry the death penalty as punishment, and are thus fairly seen as being on par with the “abomination” of homosexual sex that is mentioned briefly in Leviticus 18:22 & Leviticus 20:13 … Please consider:
*Leviticus 20:10-12 notes that both parties to any act of adultery are to be punished by death (and Jesus said that even thinking about having sex with someone other than your spouse counts as adultery – see Matthew 5:27-28) …

*Deuteronomy 22:20-21 notes that lying about one’s virginity is to be punished by death, and also notes that any woman who does not bleed during or immediately after losing her virginity is to be punished by death as well (a law which actually condemns the vast majority of women to this very day) …

*Leviticus 21:9 notes that all daughters of all priests who practice prostitution are to be punished by death, and Deuteronomy 22:23-27 notes that all virgin rape victims are to be punished by death as well …

*Leviticus 20:18 notes that all men who have sex with a menstruating woman are to be punished by death

These are all sins declared to be just as “abhorrent” in the eyes of Lucy & Bart’s conservative version of God, so why are they only speaking about gays and their “mortal sins”?  Where are all their posts condemning the folks who are violating all these other, far more prevalent mortal sins?

P.S.   This list doesn’t even go into the hundreds of other serious transgressions listed in the Old Testament – like eating a cheeseburger (Exodus 23:19), or consuming fat (Leviticus 3:17), or eating pork (Leviticus 11:7-8), or consuming aquatic creatures lacking fins or scales (Deuteronomy 14:9-10), or eating any meat not killed according to the Kosher practice (Deuteronomy 12:21), or trying to convert people to another religion (Deuteronomy 13:1-11 & Deuteronomy 18:20), or performing any work on the Sabbath (Exodus 20:10), or insulting your parents (Exodus 21:17 & Leviticus 20:9), or being a stubborn, rebellious, profligate, &/or drunken child (Deuteronomy 21:18-21).

P.P.S.   By the way, selective condemnation is an expression of bigotry.
