Page 258 … bearing our sins for Life
You then move on to 1 Peter 2:24 (a book most scholars generally agree was not written by Peter, by the way) to say that Jesus “bore our sins in his own body on the tree; that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness.”
Of course, this verse never directly says that our “dying to sin” is a selfish & passive act of mere faith. Indeed, Jesus himself would thoroughly denounce such a callous interpretation of the same, noting as he so often did that it is our courageous & humble choice to actively emulate his Way of LOVE that washes us clean of sin and allows us to thereby “live for righteousness” … Again, please consider the Word of God:
“Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone … For I have set you an example, that you also should do as I have done for you … If you understand these things, you are blessed while you DO THEM.” ~ Jesus Christ (Mark 10:18 + John 13:15-17)
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only the one who DOES the will of my Father in Heaven … And my Father is glorified by this: that you bear much fruit and become my disciples … And by this everyone will know that you are my disciples: when you show Love towards one another.” ~ Jesus Christ (Matthew 7:21 + John 15:8 + John 13:35)
