Pages 586-587 … Hating the sin
“If you are saying that no one should hate the sin in someone else’s life more then their own, then I would agree with that.”
Actually Dan, I am not making that claim at all (though I do happen to agree with it). What I am saying is exactly what Jesus himself said – namely, that we are to avoid judging others (Matthew 7:1-2); that we cannot accurately see the failings of others through the “beams” of sin in our own eyes (Matthew 7:3-5), that we must devote our lives to worshiping God by cleaning our own cups – not by identifying the stains on the cups around us (Matthew 23:25-26); that only those without any sin at all – meaning none of us – should ever call out the shortcomings of another (John 8:7); that the only way to truly walk The Way of Christ is to humble ourselves when in the presence of anyone else – friend or stranger or enemy alike (Matthew 18:3-4), and that the only way to attain Salvation; the only way to attain entrance into Jesus’ Kingdom; is to be openly & non-judgmentally Kind to those folks thereafter (John 13:34-35 et al).
And to this all I give a hearty & a Heart-filled … Amen!!!
Then you state somewhat enigmatically that,, “The 35 inequities of the Theocratic Kingdom were all punishable by death. Even dishonoring your parents was punishable by death … As a matter of fact, God says that the wages of sin is death. And all of us are going to die at some point.”
That is true, my Friend … And since the Old Testament itself even noted that homosexual lust was not the “abomination”, but only one of many sins that the writers of those texts especially detested (see Deuteronomy 24:1-4, Proverbs 3:31-32, Proverbs 6:16-19, Proverbs 8:6-7, Proverbs 11:20, Proverbs 12:22, Proverbs 16:5, Proverbs 29:27, Luke 16:15 et al) – and since it is just as likely that any heterosexual preacher is committing at least one of these other “mortal sins” at any given time – then it really goes almost without saying that, if you are going to refuse to hear Oliver Clyde Allen preach because he might be committing a mortal sin in the privacy of his own home, to remain non-hypocritical you are going to have to refuse to go and hear any preacher preach The Word of God in any church! Are you willing to do this, my Friend – or are you finally willing to soften your hard-hearted stance on gays in the clergy?
Then you add, “[God] doesn’t want us to go around committing murder.”
True, and God doesn’t want us to go around critically calling out the sins of others – and you better believe that He most certainly doesn’t want us to even indirectly claim that the sincere affection shown & shared between two loving homosexuals is a sin at all either!
“Let he who is without sin cast the first stone … Do not judge, so that you may not be judged … Why do you see the speck in your neighbor’s eye, but do not notice the log in your own? … You hypocrite! First take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly enough to remove the speck from your neighbor’s … You hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup [of others], but inside are full of greed and self-indulgence … First clean the inside of your own cup, so that the outside may also then become truly clean … Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Whoever becomes humble like this young child is the greatest in the Kingdom.” ~ Jesus Christ (John 8:7 + Matthew 7:1-2 + Matthew 23:25-26 + Matthew18:3-4)
P.S. And by the way, you comparing homosexuality (or even the act of homosexual love-making) with murder is in & of itself an expression bigotry, my dear Friend!
