Daniel:    If I wanted to learn how to be the best body & fender man, I would go to the best auto mechanic I had available to me … If I wanted to be the best student of civil rights, I would seek the best mind who was a man of God — I would turn to Dr. Martin Luther King for his wisdom … I wouldn’t turn to a worldly teacher or a drop out.  I wouldn’t turn to a gay/straight alliance group who has hijacked Dr. Martin Luther King’s civil rights movement.

God expects His children to reprove all things … It is in the Bible in many places.  What is truth is not false … What is correct is not incorrect … What is right in the eyes of the Lord is not wrong … What is righteous and holy is not unrighteous and wicked … “For the Spirit of Truth is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth; proving what is acceptable to the Lord.  And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them” (Ephesians 5:9-11)  … Not one of your’s truly denies the love of Jesus.  We know that Jesus seeks the lost and speaks life to them … “Be not conformed to this world. But be ye transformed by the renewing of your minds, that ye may prove what is the good, and the acceptable, and the perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:2)  … If I want to learn about the life, the death, and the reserection of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, I would seek a pastor who recognizes God as truth and Spirit … I would seek a pastor who recognizes Jesus as the Son of God and the Light of the World … I would seek a pastor who has the faith to obey Jesus.

Scaughdt:   That’s so bizarre, Dan – you bashing gays as “mortal sinners” (even though your own Lord & Savior never once did so) while simultaneously “hijacking” the justice & wisdom of Martin Luther King!   Implying that MLK would be on your side in this discussion is an insult to his legacy, and an inaccurate one to boot.   Indeed, Bayard Rustin (an openly gay man) was one of MLK’s most trusted assistants throughout the civil rights movement, and he was openly supported by MLK (though admittedly not by all members of that movement’s leadership) to the very end.

My Friend, the issue at hand cannot be won by clinging to “what the Bible says”, for I can easily find “divine” support in the Bible for human slavery (see Exodus 2:7 & Ephesians 6:5-9), and animal cruelty (see Genesis 9:2 & Leviticus 11:1-47), and the denigration of women (see 1 Timothy 2:12 & 1 Corinthians 14:34-35), and genocide (see Deuteronomy 7:1-2 & Joshua 10:40), and unjust warfare (see Numbers 31:2, 1 Samuel 15:3 & Joshua 4:13), and bigoted racism (see Numbers 25:1-13 & 2 John 1:10), and religious intolerance (see Exodus 22:20 & Deuteronomy 13:6-10), and rape (see Deuteronomy 22:28-29 & Judges 21:10-24), and child sex slavery (see Genesis 19:8 & Judges 1:12-13), and infanticide (see Exodus 12:29-30 & Numbers 31:17-18) if I wished to do so!

No, my Friend, the issue at hand for all true Christians is what Jesus taught about bigotry, how Jesus treated sinners, what Jesus had to say about how we are to call out the failings of others (i.e. that we are not to do so at all), how Jesus felt about religious arrogance (i.e. he despised it – see Matthew 18:3-4 + Matthew 23:25-26 et al), and what Jesus would reasonably do today were he presented with the issue of homophobia and homosexual discrimination.
