Page 738 … the Right Perspective
Next you state that, “Having the right perspective on something isn’t wrong … Our responsibility as disciples of Jesus is to minister the truth to our children and to all who might believe the promises of God.”
Well, with the former statement I agree – having the correct perspective on something by its very nature indeed cannot be wrong. And it is precisely because I agree with your first sentence here that I wholly disagree with your second one. You see, while it is true that Paul would agree that one’s primary responsibility as a disciple of Jesus is to minister truth to others, Jesus himself rejected this premise completely! He was actually very clear on what it took for us to become his true disciples, and preaching about himself &/or his divinity to others was clearly not what he had in mind. Please consider his words on the matter …
“Whoever believes in me believes not in me but in Him who sent me. And whoever sees me sees [a manifestation of] Him who sent me.” ~ Jesus Christ (John 12:44-45)
“I declare what I have seen in the Father’s presence; as for you, you should do what you have heard from the Father … On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and that you are in me, and that I am in you. They who have my commandments and keep them are those who Love me; and those who Love me will be Loved by my Father, and I will Love them and reveal myself to them.” ~ Jesus Christ (John 8:38 + 14:20-21)
“Why do you call me ‘Good’; no one is Good but God alone … Very truly, I tell you, whoever believes has eternal life … And whoever believes in me believes not in me, but in the One who sent me … And Whoever believes in me, will DO the works I do.” ~ Jesus Christ (Mark 10:18 + John 6:47 + John 12:44 + John 14:12)
“I give you a new commandment: that you Love one another. Just as I have Loved you, you also should you Love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples: when you show Love towards one another.” ~ Jesus Christ (John 13:34-35)
