Page 915 … Yes is yes & No is no
“Jesus said ‘Let yes be yes and no be no’ — meaning that we are to let be true whatever is true.”
YES, my Friend! And do you know what Jesus was referring to here more than anything else? Do you know which sin Jesus abhorred above all others and which misdeed he denounced more vehemently than all the rest combined? It was hypocrisy, Dan – HYPOCRISY! So please, my inadvertently hypocritical Friend, hear the words of Christ on this matter – and then please go forth into your life and heed them as well!
“Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said, ‘Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands before they eat.’ And he answered them, ‘And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? … This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.’” ~ Matthew 15:1-3 + Matthew 15:8
“Therefore, do whatever they teach you and follow it; but do not do as they do, for they do not practice what they teach … Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. It is these you ought to have practiced without neglecting the others. You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees. You hypocrites! You clean the outside of your cup and plate, but inside you are full of greed and self-indulgence. You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of your own cup, so that the outside might also become clean.” ~ Jesus Christ (Matthew 23:3 + Matthew 23:23-26)
