The matter is quite simple … The teachings on Love in the Bible are actually very easy to understand. And yet many Christians use other verses in the Bible itself to justify not being Kind to those with beliefs or lifestyles different than their own. They use their religion to justify the ultimate damnation of people from other faiths, and they support a theology that condemns to Hell those who choose to “sin” by living differently than they do. Essentially, they argue for a “love of God” that is limited to fellow believers; a “love” that is more unjust than unconditional — more convenient than courageous — more filled with hubris than adorned with humility. They pretend to be unable to understand Jesus’ teachings because they know very well that once they acknowledge their innate understanding of “Love your enemies”, they will be then obliged to act accordingly.
