Giving: the real Realism … 12/14/12

Pessimist (a.k.a. “realist”) … “The glass is half empty.”

He/She attends to what is “broken” or “lacking” in life in order to obtain more, or — at the very least — to attain his or her “fair share”.

Optimist (a.k.a. “realist”) … “The glass is half full.”

He attends to what is “pleasant” or “abundant” in life in order to “manifest more wealth” or — at the very least — to justify protecting the “fair share” she already possesses.

Altruist … “Would you like some of my water?”

These folks are grateful for whatever they already have, and express that thankfulness by sharing those things with those who appear to have less. In this way, these are the ones who have come to awaken to the true Beauty of Living. These are the people who come to know the Life that is truly REAL.
