Addiction #12 – Health requires lending a Softness (05/16/12)

A long life means nothing unless it is a life filled with Meaning; the Meaning that comes to those who choose LOVE — to those who choose to be gentle with their enemies, Kind to their strangers and Caring to their loved ones…

And it is important to remember that this LOVE does not have to be shown in acts that are difficult or “powerful” or “amazing” or “grandiose” …

All it takes to know a life of Purpose is to have the courage to reach out to someone in those moments when you would otherwise not — to do an anonymous good deed for a friend when you are exhausted; to smile at a stranger when you are afraid; to forgive an enemy when you are angry.

All it takes is for you to open your heart or your hands (or even your hair) and give another person a soft place to rest their worries (see the picture).

For it is these small deeds that change the world …

It is these small deeds that are not really small at all.

“The best things are nearest: breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of God just before you. You need not grasp for the stars – simply engage life’s common work as it comes to you.” ~ Robert Louis Stevenson
