Addiction #06 … JUNK FOOD (Part 3 of 4 – Table Salt) 05/24/12

LICKING THE RAZOR’S EDGE

I am not exactly sure why I felt so strongly Called to write this series on Addictions. I was all set to write a series of posts designed to illuminate the practical differences between being “happy” and being “Enlightened” when a very strong Feeling hit me – an Epiphany of sorts, where I simply KNEW that I had to write about the many common behavioral choices that were holding so many of us back from experiencing the Bliss of real, tangible, empowering Oneness. The 40 addictions that I was to research & share then simply flowed out onto a piece of paper, and I have felt almost compelled to write about them ever since …

Frankly, I find this particular Calling quite bizarre – after all, these writings seemed to be quite the departure from my usual posts that focus on awakening internally to then go forth and live a life of Love & Kindness (as opposed to “getting healthy” via external shifts in behavior) … Some of you have found this change in tone a bit confusing, and many of you, downright disconcerting.

“Nobody likes having salt rubbed into their wounds, even if it is the salt of the earth.” ~ Rebecca West

And yet this morning I woke up and it all started it make more sense …

This morning I remembered the Great Truth that can be applied to almost any situation that we perceive to be “either, or” — The TWO are always ONE … In this case, the actions we choose to engage affect our minds just as much as our thoughts & intentions affect the actions we then engage … The two are literally ONE!

After all, how much good do we really do when trying to attain “Inner Peace” by doing yoga (or Tai Chi, or meditating) after jacking ourselves up on coffee a few hours beforehand? How much good do we really do when we try to better the lives of the children in our communities while continuing to smoke cigarettes – and thereby slowly kill those children? How much good do we really do when we try to extend Compassion to the homeless on our streets while we are simultaneously supporting the slaughter of innocent life-forms to fill our bellies?

In essence, what good really comes of striving to become a person who truly Cares for others when we are doing so primarily to attain a sense of “enlightenment” (or “happiness”) for ourselves?

Struggling to attain “Enlightenment” while continuing to engage in selfish, self-destructive behaviors simply doesn’t work that well … For real Harmony to be experienced, the mind and the Heart and the body must act in harmony.

And hence, these posts on recognizing and releasing and replacing your Addictions … Every addictive behavior that you can release is one more stumbling block tossed to the side of your Path to Peace … Every ounce of self-centeredness that you replace with a selfless “healthy choice” makes your Love that much more powerful.

That’s all I’m saying … There is no “right” or “wrong” here for me – I simply recognize that every action and every behavior that you choose to engage either helps or hinders your Path to lasting deep-seated Peace & Joy.  The addictions that I am writing about are choices that keep everyone engaging them from attaining any measure of what it means to awaken to the awesome Bliss that comes from living in true harmony with your True Self.
And I would just as soon that you each come to know the Bliss …
So with that in mind, I flow onward to Addiction “next” …

Addiction #06 – the challenge of JUNK FOOD (Part 3 of 4 – SALT)

“You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.” ~ Jesus (Matthew 5:13)

Salt has three major beneficial properties – three kinds of “taste” … it enhances taste, it preserves, and it purifies. When natural salts are altered to become the cheap table salt that we normally ingest, however, a radical series of changes take place. Instead of enhancing the flavor of our food, flavor is dampened. Instead of preserving our health, it damages our bodies. And instead of cleansing us, it clouds our connection to True Self.

Life is not possible without salt. But because our regular table salt no longer resembles the crystal salt that our bodies require (in moderate amounts) to maintain their health, our consumption of table salt is killing us.

With the advent of industrial development, natural salt began to be “chemically cleaned” and reduced. Essential minerals and trace elements were removed, and crystal salt becomes pure sodium chlorides – the only member of the family of rocks that humans ingest.

“You ate sand?!?” ~ from the movie “Raising Arizona”

When table salt is eaten, the body recognizes it as a cellular poison, an unnatural substance, and wants to eliminate it as quickly as possible. This causes a constant overburden on our organs of excretion. Of course, our bodies to require a small amount of salt each day to survive, so after table salt is eliminated from the body, the craving for more salt ensues – and another cycle of addiction is born.

a SOLUTION: Eat Natural Salts …

You are a priceless being – a priceless being who is destined to go forth and do great deeds of Love. And it can be helpful to have a body that is healthy while doing so. Just as acts of Kindness bring you deep-seated Peace by harmonizing with who you truly are as a Human Being, natural salts can bring your body a deeper sense of Peace by harmonizing with your body’s digestive system.

The chemical composition of human blood is almost identical to that of ocean water, which is the very source of all natural salts. Both high-quality sea salts and Himalayan salt come directly from the sea (the former from oceans present, the latter from oceans past). And despite the increased cost, both alternatives are worth the expense.

After all, just as all others are worth your Kindness …

… you are worth your Health.

Live well, my Friends – and Peace to ALL.

“Salt is good; but if salt has lost its saltiness, how can you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at Peace with one another.” ~ Jesus (Mark 9:50)
