on true “Healing” … (01/01/10)

“In Western medicine the paradigm is to identify the specific problem and treat it with drugs or surgery. In the East, there is the understanding that, given sufficient information and support, the body is capable of returning to balance … Rest allows the body to integrate all this and do its natural healing.” ~ Richard Brady

Of course, while on the surface this quote seems true enough, for lasting Healing to occur it is important to realize a few things about the deeper nature if illness/injury & healing.

First of all, every injury or illness is a direct response to one’s previous actions & one’s current state of mind in relation to those actions.  As such, injuries & illnesses are messengers that can be used to identify areas of discord in our lives — discord between our true, selflessly caring inclinations and our instinctively selfish choices.

Second, it is important to realize that, unless you choose to alter your motivations for living, any “cure” or “healing” that comes about as a result of self-centered actions (which includes resting so that you can recuperate) will inevitably lead to an experience of additional dis-ease in the your future.  This is simply the nature of cause & effect.

The Universe resonates with a frequency of Oneness — what some call selflessness (or compassion or harmony or peace or Love).  As such, every action that is primarily self-fixated resonates discordantly with this Universal base-frequency — a discord that the Universe inevitably seeks to “iron out” in its continual attempts to attain a state of Harmonic Resonance.  We perceive these effects as pain or dis-ease.

Thus, a true Healing requires a return to a lifestyle that is motivated by compassion for others, as oppsoed to fulfilling self-centered desires.  This is Wholeness — a state of being that brings with it a very different set of consequences; namely those that are peaceful and empowering.

In my own limited experience I have found that the more we care for the happiness of others, the greater is our own sense of well-being … If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.” ~ Dalai Lama
