Finding true enJOYment … (09/02/16)

“The modalities of awakened doing are acceptance, enjoyment, and enthusiasm.  Each one represents a certain frequency of consciousness, and you need to be vigilant to make sure that at least one of them operates whenever you are engaged in doing anything at all – from the most simple task to the most complex.” ~ Eckhart Tolle

If we are speaking here of living a life of Meaning, as opposed to vacillating “purpose” — if we are speaking here of living a life of Joy, as opposed to fleeting “happiness” — if we are speaking here of living a life of Peace, as opposed to hollow comfort, then it is not enough to speak superficially of acceptance and enjoyment and enthusiasm.  It is not enough to merely mention them in passing, as though everyone knows what these attributes entail.

In fact, for Tolle to do so is incredibly misleading.

Indeed, if we choose to “accept” a situation in order to merely tolerate it until it “gets better”, we will suffer.  If we choose to “enjoy” life only to experience its physical & emotional pleasures, we will suffer.  And if we choose to be “enthusiastic” about life in order to “manifest wealth” or “be successful”, we will suffer as well.

No, the only way Eckhart’s statement bears the Good Fruit of real Peace and deep-seated Joy is when we redefine the ramifications of his terms — and then live accordingly.

We truly ACCEPT situations by being grateful for them — especially those that bring us no immediate benefit.  We truly ENJOY life by using our days to serve our communities.  And we show true ENTHUSIASM for living by sacrificing our own wants in order to fulfill others theirs.

This is what is means to live a truly Awakened Life … All else is but sleep.
