2008 … Stopping OVER at San Bol

Here we see my favorite stopover of the entire Camino: San Bol – a beautifully rustic, out-of-the-way donativo refugio. In truth, at this point on my walk I had been saving my very last Euro for several days prior to arriving, intending to donate it here (I had heard wonderful things about the place from other pilgrims). When I entered and told the hospitalera (Naisah, from Holland) that I was only stopping by to give her my last bit of money before heading on my way, she simply smiled gently and said “Oh no, you’ll most certainly be staying the night.” And that is exactly what I did (along with a small cadre of other pilgrims from South Africa, Japan, Spain & Germany) – for a full day & a half no less; reading by candle-light that first evening, bathing in super-cold fresh spring water the following morn, relaxing on fire-heated floor tiles the next afternoon, and reveling in stimulating conversation & Soul-fetching song well into the following night …
