2007 … At ONE with “One”
And then, while staying at the aforementioned GilChrist center, I watched the documentary film “One“ with my fellow retreatists and was deeply inspired by the spiritual acumen relayed therein – especially via Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, Bhakti-Tirtha, Thomas Keating, Robert Thurman, Richard Rohr, and Barbara Marx Hubbard* …
*IMPORTANT disclaimer: While this movie was indeed inspirational for me on many fronts, I do NOT advocate everything it espouses (especially any supposed “wisdoms” that empower the notions of “self care” or the need to “go within”), nor do I champion the overall teachings of everyone shown or heard herein.
“Intelligence is like a flashlight. If you flash it, it’ll only show you what’s in front of you. Knowledge – on the other hand – is like a projector; if you switch it on, it projects its own story. Now, if you came with a flashlight and you flashed it on some paintings, you would see the paintings just the way they are. If you came with a projector instead, which also has light in it, and you turned it on; you wouldn’t see the paintings. You would see something else entirely … That’s the difference between knowledge and intelligence.” ~ Sadhguru jaggi Vasudev
“For human beings, the most daunting challenge is to become fully human. For to become fully human is to become fully humane – to become an embodiment of the Divine.” ~ via Thomas Keating
“You should treat every person with whom you come in con-tact with the same care as the person you Love the most.” ~ Swami Bhakti-Tirtha
“We cannot think ourselves into new ways of living, we must live ourselves into new ways of thinking … What empowers real change, what makes us desirous of change is the experience of Love. It is that inherent experience of Love that becomes the engine of all transitive evolution … People who’ve had any genuine spiritual experience always know that they don’t know. These are the ones who are utterly humbled before the Mystery. They are in awe before the Abyss of it all, completely bedazzled by life’s eternity and its depth and a Love that is in every way limitless & perfect; a Love which is incomprehensible to the mere mind; a Love that must be given recklessly to be known at all.” ~ inspired by Richard Rohr
“Imagine a culture in which everything is geared toward helping all beings become the best beings they can be; a system in which individuals are driven to devoting their lives to becoming Enlightened via the natural flood of compassion for others that arises from the wisdom of their caring deeds.” ~ via Robert Thurman
“Our crisis is our collective rebirth. We humans are in truth one single living system, and we have come to the limit of one phase of natural growth on a finite planet. As such, we must learn ethical evolution quickly in order to less violently transition to our next iteration of being. And as we seek to facilitate this more gentle rebirth, a graceful and nonviolent transition to the next stage of our evolution, we will discover a natural pattern, a design of our birth transition, and we will develop a plan to cooperate with this greater and grander design.” ~ inspired by Barbara Marx Hubbard
